March marks the 20th Anniversary of Arts Alive, bringing the most interesting visual and performing arts events to an appreciative group of loyal Kansas City art lovers. Our board works diligently every month to offer and exciting and diverse program to our members.

Sunday, March 10, we'll assemble at noon at the Kemper Museum for a special reception and introduction to their new Executive Director, Sean O'Harrow, coming to Kansas City and the Kemper from the Honolulu Museum of Art. Born in Paris, educated at Harvard, with roots in the midwest, O'Harrow has just arrived to begin his tour as the museum celebrates its 25th Anniversary season. The current exhibition highlights Polly Apfelbaum, Waiting for the UFOs. This New York City based artist has an international reputation and this exhibit has just arrived from Birmingham, England where it had its inaugural run. Presenting a variety of textiles, ceramics, works on paper and eye dazzling carpets, the colors and texture will surely stimulate lively discussion.

We'll leave the Kemper for a short commute to the Warwick Theatre, a 1912 movie theater recently restored and converted to the new home of the Metropolitan Ensemble Theater. The presentation of August Wilson's Seven Guitars, a bawdy comedy set in 1948 in the tenements of Pittsburgh will bring another New York Drama Critics Award winning play to the Kansas City stage.
