Matt Castilleja studios Gallery & Julia Othmer SOLD OUT

Circle your calendar for Thursday, February 28th, and purchase your tickets for a wonderful evening visiting the studio and home of furniture maker Matt Castilleja then traveling the short distance to Knuckleheads to listen to Julia Othmer and her band.

We'll plan to arrive at the 3rd Street studio at 6 pm. It's located under the Broadway bridge so coming down Broadway instead of driving onto the bridge you will drive next to the bridge to the right and head to his building on the corner of Third and Broadway. There should be plenty of parking around the building and up the street.

This three story residence/studio is filled with furniture designed and fabricated by Matt and his assistants. The building had been the home of another well-known furniture artist, David Polivka, who took Castilleja under his apprenticeship and after an illustrious 40 year career, retired several years ago and left the studio to his talented apprentice. Castilleja had earned a degree in architecture but found furniture making more interesting and challenging than designing buildings. His handcrafted furniture combined the historic joinery methods from the past with contemporary furniture including unique tables, credenzas, chairs and benches. During the visit you'll see new works in progress along with finished examples ready for delivery. Our usual sumptuous reception will be offered as you wander the three floors.

We'll leave the River Market around 8 o'clock to travel the short distance to Knuckleheads Saloon located in the East Bottoms next to the train tracks and the Rieger Distillery. Julia appears at 8:30 with her band but you might want to find your seat, order a beer, visit the "biker-bar" retail offerings and check out the surroundings before the show begins.

Julia Othmer was born in Kansas City, educated in Boston and now lives in Los Angeles. She has performed in Europe and throughout the states and returns to Kansas City often to visit friends and family and occasionally performs. Julia plays the piano, writes music and sings in the style of Norah Jones, Tom Waits, Billie Holiday and Lyle Lovett combined with her beauty and originality.

This event will sell out quickly and tickets are limited so respond to your email and invite some friends to enjoy this exciting evening. Dust off your leather jacket and boots. Thursday, February 28th, 6 pm.
