ABBA-CADABRA!
Mamma Mia! It’s the Musical Magic of Heartland Men’s Chorus!
Put on your disco boots and join our “dancing queens” at the C. Stephen Metzler Hall at the Folly Theater, as HMC celebrates one of the greatest bands in popular music history! Featuring everything in the ABBA repertoire from “Take A Chance On Me!” to “Mamma Mia,” you’re sure to be singing at the top of your lungs and screaming “We love ABBA” before the curtain falls! Performance begins at 4:00 PM.
We will start the afternoon at 2:00 pm at the studio of Linda Lighton, 708 East 31st Street, Kansas City, MO 64109. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the artist, see the studio and purchase her work. The Café Europa in Union Hill will cater the event with savory treats as well as their much-loved cookies and cupcakes!
Join us for a rare look inside the ceramic studio of internationally recognized ceramic sculptor Linda Lighton. Linda’s work is featured in collections ranging from the Nelson-Atkins and the Kemper Museums of Art to the International Ceramic Museum in Icheon, Korea and many others.
In her artist statement, Lighton says, “My work has mostly been based in organic forms from nature. Lately however… flowers, pods and crystals have grown guns, gas pumps, bullets and lipsticks as the proliferation of war implements flower in our American lifestyle.”
Lighton, who uses both humor and seduction in her work, is the founder and director of the Lighton International Artists Exchange Program, which has sent over 150 arts to 52 countries and the Arctic Circle. In 2016, Lighton received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Council for the Education of the Ceramic Arts. She is a fervent arts activist and has served on numerous arts boards.
Please note: Lighton’s studio is accessible only by stairs.
