In March of 1999, Arts Alive launched a website announcing the creation of an organization that would bring the rich cultural arts of Kansas City to people interested in learning more about the local arts scene. As we launch into our 22nd year, we head back to the historic Savoy building now known as 21c Museum Hotel. This is one of nine such hotels nationally that bridges the visual arts with historic properties. The current exhibition Elevate – Kansas City brings two floors of contemporary art to the walls of this beautifully restored historic property. Jori Cheville, museum director, will discuss the current exhibit while leading us through the exhibit and share highlights regarding upcoming shows for the year.
We'll enjoy a reception with food before heading to the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts to enjoy Havana to Ipanema, an evening with the Kansas City Jazz Orchestra. Founded in 2003 and led by Artistic Director Clint Ashlock, this nineteen piece orchestra has entertained audiences for many years with the finest sounds of Kansas City jazz. From the mambo rhythms of the Caribbean to the bossa nova of Brazil, you'll enjoy an evening of hot Latin sounds on a cool winter night. Circle Saturday, March 7, and meet us at 6PM at the 21c Museum Hotel, 219 West 9th Street. You'll find ample street parking and in the parking lot just north of the hotel.
Invite your friends and reserve another wonderful evening with Arts Alive KC.
