The next Arts Alive event takes us downtown on Friday, April 19th to enjoy two crowd-pleasing events: visual art exhibits at Leedy -Voulkos Art Center followed by a performance of Ailey II, back from their smash European tour. Participation is limited to 100 guests.
Meet us at 5 PM at the Leedy-Voulkos Art Center. In the Main Gallery you can take in Resonance, a show featuring four artists from the collective known as Re:Generation. Since 2014, collective members have supported each other as sounding boards and champions, encouragement that became especially important during the pandemic. Other Re:Generation exhibits have taken place at the Albrecht-Kemper in St. Joseph and three other sites in Missouri.
In the Front Gallery you’ll see We Are Enough, an exhibit of the work of 55 local artists, curated by Harold Smith. Two other rooms feature artists Olivia Mills and Joseph Sciacca. And don’t miss the Habitat Contemporary downstairs which currently showcases the ceramic work of renowned artist John Eck.
We’ll leave the Crossroads at 6:15 PM and head to the Folly Theater a for a light supper and drinks in the Shareholder’s Lounge. Then we’ll locate our seats for the 7:30 PM performance of Ailey II, part of Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey’s 40th anniversary celebrating the founding of the only second home that the company has—right here in Kansas City.
The entire evening is only $45 per person and is limited to 100 guests, so act quickly as the event will likely sell out. Parking details will be sent the week prior to the event.
As always, tickets are nonrefundable, but they are transferrable. Should your schedule change you are welcome to give or sell your tickets to someone else (and our newly reactivated Facebook page might be useful in this situation.)
