Ailey II at the Folly - SOLD OUT

Our favorite dance group, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, will return to Kansas City after an 18 month hiatus and we've reserved your seat for the performance on Friday, April 8th. The performance will feature Ailey II, the younger dancers who have been apprenticing with Ailey on their dance journey with the company.

Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey was formed in 1983 and Kansas City is the only home outside of the New York City headquarters. Mr. Ailey began bringing his company to KC in 1960s soon after forming the company in 1958. He loved our city and was a fan of jazz, especially Charlie Parker. William Jewell College first introduced Ailey and his company and continued to bring them back often. When Kansas City Friends of Alvin Ailey was formed and with Mr. Ailey's blessing and encouragement, year around dance classes were offered. Ailey Camp was founded to bring at risk children together each summer for the "camp experience" centered around dance.

We will convene at 6pm in the Shareholders Room on the second level of the Folly for drinks and a light supper catered by Banksia. Members of the Ailey company will speak to us about the company and their world-wide dance schedule. At about 7:15 we’ll head downstairs to our seats and enjoy the performance.

Get your friends together and join us for this wonderful evening. Parking is available near the Folly, located at 12th and Central. As protocol is changing regarding vaccinations and masks, we will follow the city and the Folly mandate and you will receive a notice from us on Wednesday before the concert.
