SOLD OUT

Sunday afternoon, June 25th, those fortunate enough to sign up for the Arts Alive June event will be treated to visit the spectacular home, garden, ceramic collection and artist’s studio of Irma Starr. Long ago, Irma studied under Ken Ferguson, chairman of the Department of Ceramics at the KCAI, fell in love with the famous Burnap Collection at the Nelson-Atkins Museum and has spent a lifetime using the collection as a basis for her slipware designs. From dinnerware sets to Christmas ornaments, she designs work in her studio, teaches ceramic students and has filled the house with historic and contemporary works of art that make the experience unique among collections in the city.

The afternoon begins at 4pm and consists of a reception catered by Cupini’s restaurant, a tour of the two acre garden sculpted by her husband Fernando and a guided tour of the private collection in the house and a visit to the pottery studio in back. There is a unique work of art both large and small for everyone’s budget so be prepared for an amazing afternoon and take a memory home with you.

We leave in time to drive the short distance to Unity Temple on the Plaza and a concert featuring the accomplished pianist Jennifer Lacy and six of her friends and students. One of her amazing pupils is the 10-year old Fritz Volini. He and several ensembles will be playing musical scores and arrangements by John Williams, Charlie Chaplin, Astor Piazzolla, Aaron Khatchaturian, Gershwin and many others like Nina Rota, the composer for all of Fellini’s films, to create the live soundtrack for short motion thematic clips. The evening in the historic sanctuary of Unity Temple will be another memorable Arts Alive event you won’t want to miss.

Don’t wait to sign up or you’ll be left off the attendance list as we’re limited to a maximum number who can view the collection. Those lucky enough to make the cut will be notified of the home address and other issues related to the event by email. We hope to see you on the 25th.
